Obama's Honey-Do List(s)

Barack Obama has ahead of him a far more difficult job than any other US president in our history. Not only is he expected to fix the global economy and undo all damage caused by the current Bush administration, but it is also expected that he:

  • End/win the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

  • Bring Osama bin Laden to justice

  • End the Global War on Terror (GWOT)

  • Close the detention camps at Guantánamo Bay

  • Solve the Mideast crisis (now going on 60 years)

  • Repair the US reputation on the international stage

  • Dismantle a developing Cold War with Russia

  • Restore good relations with the nations of South America

  • End poverty on the African continent

  • Eliminate US dependence on petroleum

  • Change America into a climate-neutral nation

  • Lead all other nations in ending global warming

  • Restore respect for science in government policies

  • Create a universal, single-payer healthcare system

  • Ensure a "living wage" for all US workers

  • End corporate welfare

  • Reduce tax burdens on the middle class

  • Eliminate the nation's $1 trillion deficit

  • End special-interest influence in US politics

  • Solve America's illegal immigration issue

  • Find out what's in Dick Cheney's man-size Mosler safes1

  • Serve as a role model for all people of color in this solar system

Surely this list is not exhaustive, nor is it in any particular order, nor do I make any claim that it does not conflict with the list or lists from other persons (individually or in the aggregate) from other national, political, moral, religious, or personal perspectives.

1.  Really, it's either this or we wait for a forthcoming Geraldo Rivera television special on The Mystery of Dick Cheney's Vault. See especially the four-part series on Cheney secrecy by the Washington Post: "Across the board, the vice president's office goes to unusual lengths to avoid transparency. Cheney declines to disclose the names or even the size of his staff, generally releases no public calendar and ordered the Secret Service to destroy his visitor logs. His general counsel has asserted that 'the vice presidency is a unique office that is neither a part of the executive branch nor a part of the legislative branch,' and is therefore exempt from rules governing either. Cheney is refusing to observe an executive order on the handling of national security secrets, and he proposed to abolish a federal office that insisted on auditing his compliance."
