I believe that all Scripturethe whole book called the Bibleis "God-breathed," i.e. given by God's inspiration, and that the Holy Spirit guided the holy men of old in all that they wrote. [2 Tim 3:16, Deut 4:2, 2 Peter 1:21]
I believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three personsFather, Son, and Holy Spirit. [Rom 1:20, Matt 28:19, 1 Cor 8:6]
I believe in the humanity and deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, truly God and truly man. [John 1:14, Matt 1:20-23, John 14:9, Philip 2:5-8, 1 Tim 3:16, Heb 1:1-3]
I believe in the personality, deity, and present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. [John 15:26, John 16:7-15, Acts 1:8, Rom 8:26-27, 1 Cor 3:16, 2 Cor 3:18, Gal 5:22-23, Rom 8:9]
I believe that Jesus Christ became the sinner's substitute before God, that he died as a propitiatory sacrifice for the sins of the whole world, that he was made a curse for the sinner, dying for our sins according to Scripture. [Rom 4:4-5, Rom 5:8, Rom 6:23, Eph 2:8-9, John 1:12, 1 John 2:2, Heb 2:9, Heb 9:22, Gal 3:13]
I believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of Jesus Christ; that he ascended into Heaven and sits on the right hand of God as the believer's High Priest and advocate. [Luke 24-39, Acts 1:10-11, Eph 4:10, Heb 1:3, Heb 8:1-2, 1 John 2:1, 1 Peter 3:22]
I believe that Christ, in the fullness of the blessings he has secured by his death and resurrection, is received by faith alone; and that the moment we trust him as our Savior we are passed out of death into everlasting life, justified from all sinful activities, made righteous and accepted before the Father according to the measure of his acceptance, and loved by God as his children. At the time of acceptance of Christ as Savior, Christ comes to dwell within the believer and to live out his life of holiness and power through the believer. [Heb 9:15, Rom 3:28, Rom 4:3, Rom 4:23-25, Eph 1:3, John 17:23, Gal 2:20, Gal 4:6-7, John 14:23]
I believe in the personal return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that the coming again of Jesus Christ is the "Blessed Hope" set before us for which we should be constantly looking. Our citizenship is in Heaven from whence we look for the Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. [Acts 1:11, 1 Thes 4:16-18, John 14:1-3, Titus 2:13, Philip 3:20-21]
I believe in Jesus Christ as the true light that gives light to every person. There is no principle of spiritual light, life, or holiness apart from the influence of the Holy Spirit. It is the capacity to receive this influence that gives man preeminence above animals and which distinguishes him as an object of the redeeming love of God. The Holy Spirit must be distinguished both from the conscience which God enlightens and from the natural faculty of reason. As the eye is to the body, so is the conscience to our inner being. I disavow all professed illumination or spirituality that is divorced from faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. [John 1:9]
I believe that by our faith in Jesus Christ we become the spiritual descendants of Abraham and no longer are under supervision of the Mosaic covenant. [Heb 9:15, Gal 3:24-25, Gal 4:29, Eph 3:8]
I believe that our Lord appointed no outward rite or ceremony for observance in his church. I believe that there is, under the Christian dispensation, only one baptism. This is not an outward baptism with water, but a spiritual experience; not the removal of dirt from the body, but an inward, transforming work that enables the believer to pledge a good conscience toward God. [1 Cor 12:13, 1 Peter 3:21, Eph 4:4-5]
I believe that in matters of religious doctrine and worship man is accountable only to God. A forced worship is a contradiction in terms. The Lord said: "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." [John 4:24]
I believe that civil government is a divine ordinance, instituted to promote the best welfare of man. It is the duty of all Christians to obey those enactments of civil government which do not interfere with our allegiance to God. [Rom 13:1, 1 Peter 2:13-16]
I believe that the delivering of oathswhether in a judicial context or withoutis forbidden. The Lord said: "Do not swear at all." Any departure from this standard is prejudicial to the cause of truth. [Matt 5:34]
