Lion in Winter

This is a photograph of one of a pair of painted lions standing guard in the front yard of a home along the Halifax River in Ormond Beach, Florida.

I pass by these lions many times when I go that way on my bike, but today I decided to snap a picture of them with the 1.3 megapixel camera in my Helio Heat. This is only one of the pair.

I'm not sure if it's the Heat's camera or the lighting, but the colors are rich and the images have an unusual softness, creating an otherworldly experience. Well, maybe it's just me—or the mild weather in Florida in December.

Chain Letter

This is a transcript of my recent online correspondence with unidentified customer service respondents at Capital One regarding my attempt to get them to change my mailing address. After moving back to Florida from New York, I used the normal routes for changing my mailing address. In all cases this worked—except for Capital One. Every month, for what is now almost a full year, Capital One would continue to send my bills to New York, where the Delhi post office would dutifully slap a yellow forwarding sticker on the envelope and send it to me in Florida. I still don't know if it's fixed. You might find this more coherent if you start at the end and work your way back up:

Dear Capital One,

I received my monthly statement today--and again it was forwarded by the post office from New York. The yellow sticker says "Notify Sender of New Address." Well, I have been telling Capital One that since last January.

Why does Capital One continue to have a problem fixing this? This has been going on since January. Next month will make a full year. I would like this fixed now.

Dear Capital One,

Alas, that is precisely the same thing I was told in September (for the change that was supposed to have been made in August, July, June ...). I will wait one more billing cycle. Thank you for giving me a paper trail.

Hello Merle Harton,

The system shows that the address in the system is the 1234 STREET AVENUE DAYTONA BEACH, FL 32117, the reason you may have received the statement at the old address is due to it was sent out before the address was update.

Dear Capital One,

I have done that already--twice, in fact--and the problem still remains. I have also talked with a CSR nearly every month since January. Why can't this get fixed?

Dear Capital One,

You have not updated my mailing address, despite 10 months of attempts. I received my statement in the mail today--and still you are mailing my statements to an old address I have not been at for a year. My statements still arrive with a forwarding sticker, and always with insufficient time to mail payment.

My mailing address is 1234 Street Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.

I have not used P.O. Box 234, Delhi, NY since January. I keep getting assurances that this is fixed, but it is not.

What are you doing to repair this? Not only is this a major aggravation, but you are losing your credibility with me--why should I not simply cancel this card?

Sincerely, Merle Harton, Jr.
