People, Parties, and Principles

On October 28, the Upper School Student Council of Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn, NY, held an election featuring 5 presidential candidates, each represented by a surrogate student who presented their candidate's stance on "Iraq, Afghanistan, healthcare, abortion, the bailout, gay marriage, drilling for oil, immigration, death penalty, public education, and Israel."1 What the students didn't reveal was their candidate's gender, race, or name.

The results? Ralph Nader won with 46% of the vote, followed by Barack Obama (29%), Green Party candidate Cynthia McKinney (17%), John McCain (4%), and Libertarian Bob Barr (2%).
